Upside Down Tomato Growing
In the tomato gardening world, upside down tomato plants are the newest twist on container gardening. For those of us with space challenged gardens containers are a great way to go.
Add some vertical gardening and you have upside down tomato plant growing. These containers are called planters, upside down tomato growing bags, topsy turvy planters and assorted other names.
But bottom line, why bother trying growing tomatoes upside down?
- Your garden is the talk of the neighborhood with those upside down tomatoes.
- The good airflow keeps leaves drier and more resistant to fungal infections.
- Water and fertilizer elements are delivered directly to the plant roots for quick absorption.
- No bending to garden (assuming you hang the plant at a good height)
- No need to stake the plants.
- Fewer pest problems by using a container and potting soil for growing your upside down tomatoes
I've been growing tomatoes in containers for sometime and thought I'd give upside tomato plant growing a try. Now the choices for containers are numerous from the upsidedown tomato growing bag, to DIY (do it yourself) with buckets, soda pop bottles, planters and you name it.
Ordered one of the topsy turvy containers and then took a trip to my local nursery. There I picked up a planter and tomato plant and decided to do it myself. I even filmed the process to share with you. It's being edited and I'll post it soon.
All in a gardener's day,
